"Look, look! It's -- moving!"
Indeed I am. Sorry for not updating sooner.
Has anyone else seen Spirited Away? It's a very cool film and I highly recommend it. Kind of like a Japanese Alice in Wonderland. It has some really cool commentary on life and people and free-enterprise systems. Like Chihiro's parents, for instance. In the spirit-world, they're transformed into pigs and thereby become typical, un-unique, mindless consumers. There are some good environmental themes, too. But No-Face is my favorite character. (Note: the thoughts on No-Face are mostly credited to Jacob.) He is pretty much ignored most of the movie, except by Sen. Inside the bath-house, No-Face tries to gain friendship by giving things (mostly gold) to the characters, and as such, curries much favor. But this backfires, since the characters only care about him for his gold, and No-Face becomes a devouring monster. Only Sen can stand up to him, which she does by refusing his materialistic offerings, saying simply that she doesn't need any. No-Face returns to his old state, and they become friends. In the end, he was just lonely. I think No-Face represents a lot of people who get ignored or are overlooked most of the time. But enough from me. Go see it yourself, if you haven't yet!
